Snake Plant Care

The Snake Plant is possibly the most forgiving houseplant you can own. It literally thrives on neglect and can survive in almost any indoor condition.

Basic Care

Light: Tolerates everything from low light to bright indirect. Avoid direct sun.

Water: The #1 rule: less is more. Water every 2-6 weeks depending on season and pot size.

Soil: Must drain well. Cactus mix or regular potting soil with added perlite works great.

Temperature: Very tolerant of temperature fluctuations.

The Most Common Mistake

Overwatering is the only real way to harm a snake plant. Signs include:

• Soft, mushy leaves
• Bad smell from soil
• Yellowing from the base

If this happens, stop watering immediately and check the roots. You may need to repot in fresh, dry soil.

Growth and Propagation

Snake plants are slow but steady growers. They’ll eventually produce “pups” (baby plants) that can be divided and potted separately.

For propagation, you can also cut leaves into sections and root them in water, though this takes several months.
